Well done Angling Trust, lobbying Govt to allow anglers to fish during the lockdown
I join this club in 1999 and in the early 00's I was asked to become club secretary. This coincided with the club gaining the fishing rights to its own water, later to be named the Jubilee Fishery. Over the next 15 years I was part of a great team of members that saw this developed into the three lake complex it is today.
This was a big change for the club which then attracted members more interested in fishing just still waters. This seems to be the modern trend and membership grew from 35 odd members to approximately 150.
I resigned from the secretary position in 2018 and left the club soon after this. The club and I were moving in the different directions. I wanted to fish different venues where as the club was still heavily focused on it's own fishery. I did enjoy my time was Evesham Jubilee and over the years this led to me to form many long lasting friendships with some great people that I still fish with today.
If you're new to the Evesham area and looking for a fishing club, Evesham Jubilee is a great club to be in. There's plenty of Cups up for grabs and plenty of banter during the clubs matches.
Grant was a life long member of Evesham Jubilee and after his sad death in 2004 The club began to raise money for St Richards Hospice by running a memorial match every year, which they still do today.. I was luckily able to get my name on the memorial Cup when I won the match back in 2010
This match which is ran every year has so far raised over £15,000 for the charity. This this was one of my happiest ever match wins
Over the years I fished with Evesham Jubilee most of the matches were individual club matches but there were times when we fished as a team. I remember representing the club in local association summer and winter leagues on the River Avon in Evesham and also an annual team match against Bidford AC. We decided to enter the Angling time Super cup a couple of times and one year we even reached the semi-finals, beating a local side from Shipson on Stour along the way to the semi's
For the 1st hundred years Evesham Jubilee was a roving club not having its own waters. The matches would generally be held on rivers and still waters but when I joined the club they soon gained their own venue, The Jubilee fishery. I saw it grow over the years I was secretary of the club seeing the Jubilee pool and then later Phil's pool (not me!) and The Withies being dug out and stocked. I enjoyed this side of fishing, regularly sourcing and buying new fish for the pools and attending maintenance days But after a time I just wanted to just concentrate on my fishing rather than organising the club and attending the monthly committee meetings.
Over the years with my time with Evesham Jubilee I think I won pretty much every Cup and Trophy in the club at least once, topped by becoming Club Champion in 2006. This matches were held on Rivers such as the Avon, Severn, Wye and the Arrow. Local canal stretches in Worcestershire and Stillwaters. To be club champion you had to be good at all angling disciplines and back then the matches attracted 20-35 anglers some weeks on the bank.
Sadly in the later years the club had to have most of its matches at the Jubilee fishery so funds could be raised to afford the rent of the fishery. This saw canal and rivers matches decline and the membership changed into anglers that just wanted to fish at the Jubilee fishery. I started to fish other venues away from the club. The fishing also started to decline at the Jubilee fishery going from you catching 30lb -40lb on a average match off any peg to matches being won with just a few fish. These weren't matches that I wanted to fish anymore and I saw myself and Evesham Jubilee going in different directions. I resigned as club secretary in 2017 and myself and a few others who felt the same formed Jubilee Nomads.
